Strict Chinese senior citizens believe that the Spring Festival is the start of a new year thus what we do then will affect your luck in the coming year. There are some activities should be avoided during Chinese New Year.
I. Don't sweep the garbage outside the house: The act of sweeping on these days is associated with sweeping wealth away. In case it is messy, Do sweep and collect them inside of your house.
2. Don't say unlucky words: It is a happy day. Nobody wants to hear words with negative meanings during the Lunar
New Year period. Avoid saying words related to death, sickness, poverty,
ghosts shocked or sad news.It is believed that they will come in reality to both speaker and listener as it is time that god could hear them and sorted it as a wish you prayed.
3. Don't eat porridge: Having Porridge is considered Bad Omen since poor people in Chinese having it (No Offense). It is not a good start at the beginning of the Year. Why Not having Food you pray to the Gods?
4. Don't Deep wash your hair: In Mandarin, hair (发, fa) has the same pronunciationas fa in facai (发财), which means 'to become wealthy'. Therefore, it is seen as not a good thing to " Deep wash one's fortune away" at the beginning of the New Year. However, Normal body wash face wash and hair wash are considered as OK.
5. Don't get a haircut: It is believed that it might bring misfortune to the Family, Especially uncles. However, having a haircut or get a new hairstyle before Chinese New Year for a new look is considered as creating new 'wealth' for the whole coming year.
6. Don't wash clothes on the first and second day of the new year: These two days are celebrated as the birthday of the water god. To wash clothes is regarded as disrespect to the god of water. It result to "The burden" for the rest of the whole year.
7. Don't wear white or black clothes: these two colors are associated with mourning. For black clothes, if you wear, people will considered you as the black sheep. So Wear "Red" Instead.
8. Don't Visit Daughter's Parents house (No offense): A married daughter is not allowed to visit the house of her parents on
The first day of Chinese New Year's day, as this is believed to bring bad luck to the
parents, causing economic hardship for the family. However, a married daughter visits the house of her parents on the second day of Chinese New Year.
