A new type of Inflation -- Shrinkflation

 

As can be known, the world economic has suffered during Covi**9 pandemic, Rus***-Ukr**** wa* and may-be-Chi*a-Tai*an war. No Doubt, there is a rise of the products we utilized everyday such as Gasoline, Gas and more. When this happened, Economists usually present the term "Inflation". However, business-people are smart. They trick us like their products does not increase the price using "Shrinkflation". Actually, they did increase the price.

What is Shrinkflation? How does it work? How Shrinkflation trick us to buy more?

What is Shrinkflation?

We keep talking about inflation about how everything is getting more expensive. Do you know why because it's so obvious you can see inflation on the price tag which is why companies have devised a workaround it is called shrinkflation. we have told you about this in the past. The principle is really simple instead of charging more, you give less of the product.

Imagine, there are two bars of soap made by Company A. The first one weighs 100 grams the second one weighs 90 grams but the price is the same. The first one has been phased out by  Company A and now they sell only the 90 gram. It can be countered that 10 gram wasn't much but what if sell 10 millions of units every year, it mean they cut the cost of soap 1 million gram with the same profit and it makes some consumer happy too.

 Now consumers are noticing it they are calling out such companies. Take a look at the trick they make.

1. Bigger package, small amount- such as Ice Cream, Chips, and other snacks.

 

2. Taller but thinner such as beverage products, perfume, shampoo.

 

3. Same size but smaller portion such as restaurant dishes, fruits.

4. Decrease terms of payment such as Electricity and Water Utility.

5. Change both size and price such as Cosmetic products, shampoo, perfume (Ex. before 100 gram for 2 dollars but now 90 gram 1.9 dollars)
